June Journey of Faith

Happy June! Ah, the beginning of summer, my favorite season. I love being outdoors in the toasty sunshine, getting a suntan, early sunrises drawing me out of bed, late sunsets lending me more time to be outdoors… Seeing a trend here? Yep, I LOVE the sun – the more rays the better – which is probably why I LOVED living in the Valley of the Sun, Phoenix, AZ. Texas doesn’t do too badly on sunshine either, although it is muggier. Still, bring on summer! Love the heat, love the sun, love the fun.

Summer is also the season of best movies of the year, something I pay close attention to. If not the best, as opinions vary, at least the most anticipated – the blockbusters – the epic event makers. The ones you buy midnight tickets for. The ones that make you feel like you’ve been on the best roller coaster on the planet, or devoured the perfect meal, or spent the perfect afternoon with your best friend.

One of those slated for summer 2010, as many of my Twi-hard Dry Ground readers will already know, is Eclipse, the third installment of the Twilight Saga opening June 30th.

So…Guess what??

The rest of June here on Dry Ground will focus on more Twi-devotionals, as I call them. Before New Moon debuted in theatres back in November 2009, I did a series focusing on the first book, Twilight, called The Perfect Lover: How Reading a Vampire Book Brought Me Closer to Jesus. (Click here to start reading that series! Or see sidebar.)

This time, the focus is on New Moon, the second book in the four-book Twilight Saga. If you have not read the book, the movie is available on DVD/BluRay and keeps fairly close to the original story, but I will be drawing on both sources and thus printing spoilers. This is one reason I am not doing Eclipse since some haven’t read the books, and I’d want them to have the opportunity to see the movie on June 30th or after before expounding.

In a nutshell, New Moon, from my viewpoint, is about the test of faith – defined as: belief in, devotion to, or trust in somebody or something, especially without logical proof; allegiance or loyalty to somebody or something.

I hope you will join me M/W/F in June as I explore The Light in the Darkness – How Reading a Vampire Book Taught Me More about Faith.
